Gareth Squance Wedding Photographer

I have always had an eye for picture. I studied art and design and started taking pictures when the digital era arrived. I loved the fine detail which could be drawn out from the digital images. This clearly became better as cameras improved and manufacturers developed better sensors.

When I started wedding photography, I soon realised it was a real privilege to be a part of a couple's big day. I value the intimacy of marriage and happiness that comes with it (most of the time). This is what I strive to capture. In order to get these natural images the couple and guests need to feel at ease with me and the equipment I use. This is where a pre wedding shoot comes into its own. This is a great opportunity to spend time with the couple, get to know them and learn about their creative preferences and styles to ensure that the wedding portraits both formal and informal, the group portraits and the reportage shots are perfect. During the shoot we aim to create a relaxed atmosphere so the initial rigid poses become beautiful intimate moments.

It's a privilege for me to be able to photograph the bride before the wedding. I feel a real sense of responsibility being the wedding photographer. I realise tensions and emotions are running high at this time and in the background can capture beautiful intimate moments as they happen. This leads to some amazing photographs.

I enjoy interacting with the guests and like to get them to participate as much as possible. I have a real ability to read people and become aware at the earliest moment if they are getting tired of the camera.

For me the most rewarding part of being a wedding photographer is the moment when I know I have captured ‘the image’ that will wow the bride and groom. I will work hard to ensure that before I leave each wedding I have all the photos I want and need. I also feel it valuable that the new bride and groom spend a small amount of time away from their guests to capture some great wedding portraits. It is after all, your wedding day.

My equipment
I use a Nikon Professional Digital SLR. Nikon F2.8 range of lenses & creative lighting system. My portable studio consists of an Lastolite Softbox which adds soft natural lighting to my images. In post production I use professional editing tools, namely Photoshop CS4 which is the leading software used by the World’s media and publishing magazines. This is used to enhance levels, contrast and sharpness to bring to life every special moment. For me this is the most rewarding part of the processes.

Here are some of my personal pictures I’d like to share with you.
